For many of us, to run, to walk hand in hand, to climb the stairs are common activities, plain as possible. When you are healthy is easy to overlook the difficulties and the drama of those struggling for a normal life. This month we join the High School “Marin Preda” from Bucharest and their project – The joy of offering smiles” created to support people with disabilities, in this particular case, the students and teachers of the school.

Talking with the project promoters I found out amazing stories, I admired their enthusiasm and stubbornness in fighting for the less fortunate among us. What motivates them?

“We want to awaken the interest of children and parents for what is beautiful, normal and natural, so as to prove to ourselves and the others that we are capable of kindness and goodness (…) Today, more than ever, we must teach our children the values and the genuine democracy. We need to show them that we can only live in communion with those around us, many of which need support and understanding. So the goal is to open our children’s soul to charitable activities and succeed in raising funds to help those in need. ”

The third edition of the project involves students, teachers, parents and external partners, in order to obtain funds to purchase a lift for students and teachers with disabilities since the high school does not have a portable ramp for the stairs usable by people physically challenged. This means that students and teachers cannot attend the classes conducted in the laboratories located upstairs, being deprived of many of the things we consider normal. This project is about achieving an environment adapted to the needs of students and teachers with disabilities leading to the elimination or diminishing their social isolation.
