Travelers’ Choice – Top 5 Islands to See in April

Cristina Militaru ⋆ “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” office@simplifytravel.ro

As we are always ready to escape to a romantic getaway, we thought to see which are the most popular islands for a holiday in April. So we start with:

1. Ambergris Caye, Belize

Ambergris Caye entices you with an atmosphere that gives enough benefits to make it interesting, but not so overdeveloped that it prevents you from being a relaxed tourist. A mangrove swamp is at the centre of this island of white sand beaches, the largest of Belize Islands, and golf cars are the main form of transport along the sandy roads. Diving enthusiasts go crazy after the Belize Barrier Reef and Blue Hole, a 400-meter-deep circle of limestone, full of scalars, corals, shrimps and stalactites. Don’t miss the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, the sharks at Ray Alley Sharks and the crocodile sanctuary at ACES / American Crocodile Education Sanctuary.

2. St. John, U.S. A – Virgin Islands
Ecotourism is a way of life here. You have more than enough to do on the island, from watching and observing wildlife in the national park, to trekking for tens of miles and hiking on white sandy beaches. Then head to the water for snorkeling, swimming and even underwater photos of course. This is the Caribbean area, after all. Check for Trunk Bay, Waterlemon Cay and Ram Head Trail.

3. Bora Bora
Although a relatively small island, Bora Bora is a giant when it comes to the variety of activities, giving visitors the chance to experience a 4×4 safari, swimming and relaxing on the white sand beaches, diving in a natural underwater park (including fish and corals), thrilling meals where you feed sharks or a romantic boat tour on the turquoise waters of the lagoon. Bora Bora is the ultimate romantic place! You will be captivated by this lush jewel of the Polynesian islands and definitely try an intimate midnight beach dinner. Visit the Lagoonarium, Diving Center, coral gardens or Leopard Raze Trench before setting off to the heights of Mount Otemanu.

4. San Juan Island, Washington
A vacation on San Juan Island in Washington? San Juan may not be a tropical retreat, but this picturesque landscape proudly shows you the beaches, the swimming spots to watch the orcs and is also home to one of the largest lavender farms in the country. Kiln Point State Park Lime Park is the perfect place to be for whale watching, while the Pelindaba lavender farm will fill your vacation with the unmistakable scent of those amazing purple plants. The lively Harbor Friday is a jackpot of restaurants and shops, plus unique attractions, such as the 19-acre sculpture garden at Westcott Bay Reserve.

5. Santorini, Cyclades
Santorini is full of charm and deliciously different from other islands of the continent. Extremely popular are the two black beaches of volcanic origin – Perissa and Kamari – as well as the undoubtedly famous red beach near Akrotiri (which is the favourite place of archaeology enthusiasts). Santorini curves around a gigantic lagoon in the Cyclades islands, offering breathtaking views of the sky-rising cities, eclectic culinary delights, wonderful art galleries, blossoming nightlife and excellent wines. Don’t miss Amoudi Bay, hiking from Fira to Oia and the outdoor cinema from Kamari. Now, if you’ve become curious and your appetite has opened for you to visit the romantic islands of the world, open your internet and let yourself be guided by your heart. It’s spring outside, it’s time to travel!
