The National Geographic Traveller photo contest winner is…Alecsandra Drăgoi

These days the Romanian press has covered extensively the news regarding Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi. She is young, talented and passionate to learn as much as possible about the surrounding world. She is currently living in London and according to her public statements – she always had the curiosity to discover new places and people. Alecsandra is the winner of the photo contest Travel Photography Competition 2015 organized by National Geographic Traveller magazine, for the “People” category.

The annual photo competition was launched in September 2014 and the UK photographers were invited to submit their images to one of these six categories: “Action”, “Animal”, “People”, “River”, “Rural” and “Urban”.

Alecsandra’s picture shows a teenager dressed in a bearskin surprised when he uncovers his head, looking directly into the camera lens. The photo was taken in Comanesti, Bacau County, now illustrating to the world the New Year’s traditions in Romania. All the images selected for this contest will appear in an exhibition at the London gallery Theprintspace and can be purchased for the first time thanks to a collaboration between the organizers of the competition and the exhibition space representatives.

As for the other participants in the category “Action” Yanick Targonski won with a photo made from a moving train in Sri Lanka; to the “Urban” section Philip Braud was selected, with a photo taken in London, and at the “River” category the picture of Claire Carter was appreciated, taken in Rio de las Vueltas, Argentina.

Chris Miller, with his photo realized in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Vietnam, was the winner in the category “Rural” and Barry Robertson, with the picture of the Falkland Islands was nominated for  “Animals”.
