77% of the consumers have problems when traveling to the EU

Starting 1 March 2015 and ending 16 March 2015 the European Consumer Center Romania – ECC Romania has participated as an exhibitor at the Romanian Tourism Fair – the Spring Edition. At this event ECC Romania distributed during the 4 days of the fair 3.250 brochures on various topics related to the Romanian consumer rights when going on vacation in Europe, which is an average of 812 people a day who received free information and advice from the counselor’s center. At this point, ECC Romania has made a survey of 6 questions among the visitors on awareness of consumer rights and 150 questionnaires were completed within 4 days of the fair. After processing the information the data revealed the following conclusions:

77% of consumers who responded to the questionnaire had problems during their travels in the European Union; in general problems regarding the delay or cancellation of the means of transport (mainly aircraft) and luggage problems.

88% of them have not addressed a specialized consumer protection agency and 55% believe that ECC Romania is a very good-initiative.

ECC-Net is made up of European Consumer Centers in 29 countries (27 EU Member States plus Norway and Iceland), and is co-funded by the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers Affair  of the European Commission and by each of the Member States. The aim of the network is to create confidence in the European internal market, providing useful information to consumers about their rights, offering advice and assistance in cross-border purchases.
