What can you do on a rainy afternoon at the end of January? Try going out with friends for lunch. Now, if they prove to be experts in the restaurants of Bucharest, better yet. This is how I arrived at Cucina Borghese with Mirela Surghie from www.extravita.ro and Costin Staicu from www.e-restaurant.ro. They were starving; I was late to the meeting.
It would be good to start by saying that as far as I’m concerned, my menu consists of vegetarian dishes almost always, fish or seafood. That is a terribly difficult task for a chef. It is much easier to cook a tasty steak than a salad. So he focused on what they served and prepared me … a salad. On the other hand, there have been a diversity of beef with foie gras, lamb chops, salsa con tonno in tempura wasabi plates – of which I tasted a little – I could not help it.
The enthusiasm reached its peak at desert. I’m not the biggest fan of sweets but these were one of the best cakes I have ever eaten. My favorite ? Ice cream globe wrapped in chocolate Hedone with gold eatable leaf (photo).
So food was delicious, the conversation and jokes great. But what I liked the best was the attitude of the staff. The little chats, stories and tips to take home and use in the kitchen J. 
Then, surprise. I met the cook: Chef Ioan Cristian Serb. When he told me he is 21 years old a big surprise appeared on my face. He smiles polite and says:
“Being a chef is not a job, it is a lifestyle. “
I take his word for it, nothing in this world can be achieved without passion and dedication. And he is already so skilled for his age. Upon departure instead of Good-bye – a See you soon from all of us. I already had added the restaurant on the list of recommended places where to have a treat with friends.
