It is finally weekend after an atrocious working week – to the point where you no longer know the city by light, your friends have put you on the missing person list and your apartment plant has committed suicide while waiting for a drop of water. Wonderful! Therefore, the invitation received to join a stand up show could not be more perfect. Out of habit and convenience, usually, for concerts, stand up and theater I go in the old city center. This time the invite was for: Theater at the Cinema!
More specifically, the cinema of Plaza Romania Bucharest hosted a unique project – the theater and improvisation show featuring the Backstage Boys band. As I had seen the boys in the past, I thought this is exactly what I needed as a remedy: to laugh out loud, along good friends. In addition, the location is a shopping center, so the stress of searching for parking disappears – is a factor that drives me crazy every time: desperately seeking for a free space and always paying the “ street entrepreneurs” a fee ( 2 times higher than in an official parking) to park my car on a public sidewalk. Suddenly, going to the theater at the mall sounds great.
8.00 pm. The band boys stir among us, joking, taking pictures. They are young, very young. And talented. When you see them on the stage you suddenly realize how much dedication and concentration is needed for one show. They make it look so easy but improvisation is perhaps the most difficult act of interpretation. You’re either good or do not have what it takes. There no way in the middle. But they are doing great. In the movie theater the people laugh a lot, step into action, the public is a kind of amateur filmmaker. From time to time, the spectators are invited to the podium. Now the whole room is watching you and you, between the scene lights, the hundreds of eyes watching you closely and the band that drew you in their game, have the greatest fun ever: surprised, happy, flushed cheeks and a big smile on your face.
More than this I am not adding. It’s the kind of event that I recommend for you to live it. So take your loved one or your friends by the hand and forget about work. Go recharge your batteries for the next week. For details on the upcoming performances and the Cinema Theater project click here. Enjoy!
