As autumn sets in the cold weather determines us to retreat inside. All for the best as October arrives with the second edition of HipTrip Travel Film Festival which will take place between 8-11 October at Union Cinema and Eforie Cinema in Bucharest.
In other words, you can watch 25 films from 10 countries including India, UK, USA, Australia, Spain, Germany, Siberia, Canada, Iran and Romania. Moreover, short films directed by Corneliu Porumboiu and Adrian Sitaru are among the productions selected.
The list of short films focusing on travel will start October 10 at Cinema Eforie, at 17.00, comprising:
- “Journey to the city” (2003) by Corneliu Porumboiu, with Ion Sapdaru and Constantin Dit – the story of a teacher who leave the countryside to reach the city in full celebration day
- “Hello Kitty” (2011) by the Millo Simulov, and “Ela, Panda and Madam” (2013) by Andrei Rautu
- “Chicken, fries and a Cola” (2012) by Emanuel Pârvu awarded at Anonymous Festival as the best short film of the year
- “Trip” (2012) by Adrian Sitaru – the story of a child who steals a video camera and starts filming his daily life
“We have chosen these five short films because obviously they have something in common with our festival’s profile. All of them are illustrating the character’s attempt to reach freedom and escape from everything that surrounds them, from a reality that seems to swallow them. We hope you like them and feel the curiosity for the filmmaker’s motivation, the reason why they felt the need to escape. Don.t we all feel that at some point? “- Florin Barbu, film critic
You can also see for the first time “To the north, on Ural and Kamaz traces,” directed by George Oprea, a documentary about the first Romanian expedition in the far north of Siberia. A journey of nearly 30,000 kilometers realized by eight men in 55 days at temperatures of up to -54 degrees Celsius.
“In March 2012 we went to the far east of Siberia, crossing the Bones road, and then we got the idea to cross the frozen north of Siberia. This expedition started from a simple indicator that I saw in a small village of farmers and reindeers, some 200 km north of Kolyma – the Bones Road to Magadan indicator that direct you to a place located beyond the Nordic Arctic Circle. I thought I reached the end of the world, but we realized that north of this place are there are people, there is life. (…) We have chosen Siberia because it is so clean and pure, untouched by man. Is practically a “country where I would go back in every season” says Mihai Ţucă, one of the expedition members. The screening will be followed by a Q & A session with the expedition members.
Romania will also be represented by the documentary “Explorer”, which focuses on the life of Emil Racoviţă the pioneering researcher of Antarctica’s wildlife, telling the story of Belgica expedition (1897-1899) – the first scientific expedition in Antarctica, along with Roald Amundsen, Frederick Cook and Captain Adrien de Gerlache.
