If you think that this is a high number for a country with the cultural and historical background of Romania, than think again. It is small, very small and it seems that in 2015 Romania still struggled to bust the inbound tourism. The area of interest for foreigners are also the same as in the previous years – the big cities, the beach resorts of the Black Sea, the mountains resorts on Prahova Valley  and the thermal village.

According to the INS data, most tourists came from Germany – 266.934 people stopping in the capital Bucharest and in all major cities, later making their way to the Danube Delta or to Mamaia resorts. The statistics also show that the tourists – the ones from Israel in particular are interested in the mountain resorts, while the French go on country tours, followed by the Hungarians who are turning to Romania for the thermal and spa resorts.

The Black Sea resorts on the other hand registered over 4,900 tourists from Germany and more than 2,700 American tourists in the summer of 2015. For 2016 the travel agencies also expect visits from Israel due to the openings in June of charter flights operated from Mihail Kogalniceanu airport near Constanţa.

1.7 million foreign tourists arrived last year in Bucharest and in the big cities

Among those who chose to visit the capital and the major cities are 203 601 German tourists, while the number of Israeli tourists goes to 42.831 – most of them choosing the vacation in the resorts of Prahova Valley.

Furthermore out of the total of 174 166 tourists who arrived in the Central Region of Romania in December 2015 almost half – 80.723 – arrived in Brasov. The town at the foot of Tampa Mountain is thus the undisputed leader in the region with a share of 46.4% of all visitors. Brasov is followed by the city of Sibiu (19.8%), Mures (17.7%), Harghita (6.9%), Alba (5.8%) and Covasna (3.4%). Most foreign tourists that visited Brasov are Germans, followed by Italians and French.

Danube Delta preferred by Germans, Norwegians and Poles

UNESCO Heritage site, Danube Delta is one of Romania most spectacular regions. Although most foreign tourists in the Danube Delta were Germans (4.494), the second place goes to the Poles, followed by Norwegians. The travel agencies say that Danube Delta is a favorite spot for those who are nature lovers, bird watching fans and hunting amateurs.
