OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANo matter where you are in the world, even more, if  you are Romanian, your heart beats for the families of those who lost their children in the fire that destroyed the Colectiv club 3 nights ago. Tonight 25.000 people are protesting on the streets of Bucharest demanding the resignation of the mayor of sector 4 – Cristian Popescu Piedone, of the Prime Minister Victor Ponta or of  Gabriel Oprea. After the details about irregularities and the lack of reaction of the authorities emerged, the psychological impact has been enormous. The massive mobilization of social networks like Facebook has led to the protest that tonight keeps Romania awake. We refuse to let the victims of Colectiv club be just a numbers or a statistics. There is no justification for the tragedy that occurred. No excuse for those who are responsible for it. The Romanians are seeking justice. Young and old, all chanting the same things:  # suntemcolectiv # resignation.

The column of demonstrators is now marching towards University Square, the club Colectiv and the Patriarchy, thousands of people shouting in one voice: We want hospitals and not cathedrals! as in Romania the number of hospitals are 425 versus 18.300 churches. People also blame the lack of reaction and empathy of the Patriarch Daniel which displayed a some how hostile reaction towards the thousand of voices demanding the closure of funds distributed towards the construction of new churches and the relocation of the budget for hospitals and clinics.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPresident Klaus Johannis also published a post on his Facebook page tonight, welcoming the street manifestations and adding that such events can not be ignored by the political class. “I am impressed by the events happening this evening. It is a street movement that comes from people’s desire to have their dignity respected. I understand that it is being asked and expected, and on good reason, for someone to assume the political responsibility. The next step must come from the politicians who can not ignore this feeling of revolt anymore.”

So folks support the people in the streets tonight, that seek justice for those who can not do it. So that we can change the way things are right now. So that we can  live decently and have no more carelessness or corruption. And pray for the 135 people who are in hospital fighting for their life. 56 of them are still in critical condition.

Note: For those who have not fully read what happened here is a short brief:
