Last weekend, specifically Saturday, September 26, 2015, Arad City Hall released to the public the project involving the city application for the title of European Capital of Culture 2021 an event that took place in the presence of over 1,500 people, in an atypical setting: the production warehouse of the Astra Vagoane Calători factory ( tram factory).
The local administration of Arad city will spend over 50 million euros, money that will be invested in the cultural infrastructure and the ” offer for Europe” as declared by Mayor George Falca, mentioning also that there is a survey demonstrating that 80 percent of the populations in Arad supports the Project and the candidature for this title. The sum of 50 million estimated for investments refers to projects such as the conversion of Arad Fortress and landscaping Mures River, which passes through the city center.
“We may possibly be the city that has the most money at stake because we invest both in cultural infrastructure – namely restoration of important buildings and in our offer for Europe. We do not want to be a cultural capital in Romania, we want to offer Europe solutions that are coming from Arad “says Mayor George Falca. Also, the city of Arad is the only city in Romania which has decided to run for the title of European Green Capital 2018.
On March 5, 2013, Arad has officially launched his candidature for the title of European Capital of Culture 2021 event that took place in Brussels in the European Parliament.
