A few days back I have received the press release of Paravion, Romania’s largest online travel agency, on their top holiday packages sold for summer 2016. As expected, the Greek islands are the stars of the summer season this year, more than 60% of the Romanian tourists buying a 7 days holiday in the sunny Greece.
Crete and Zakynthos remain top on the list among the tourists who have booked holidays abroad in August with an average budget of 600 euros per person, a sum which includes flights, transport from the airport to the hotel and back, and accommodation with breakfast. According to Paravion, 45% out of all packages to Crete and Zakynthos have been purchased on last minute deals in July 2016.
Now, if you’re considering staying in the islands, here are the major attractions that you need to check out:
In Crete: the Minoan Palace of Knossos – the most important archaeological site on the island, the city of Rethymno ( nicknamed the Venice of Greece), and Elafonissi, the most beautiful beach in the southwest of the island.
In Zakynthos, the island called the “Venice of the South” or ” the Flower of the Levant”: do not miss Zakynthos – the capital of the island, Navagio beach – one of the most popular in Greece, especially preferred by those who want to be isolated from the rest of civilization, and the amazing Keri caves (the blue caves) which are highly sought after by those who love snorkeling.
Moreover, Greece enjoys high temperatures until the end of September which allows you enough time to plan a trip here. And as the peak season slows down now is the time to take advantage of the full benefits that come with the beginning of autumn: lower prices for accommodation and empty beaches as the crowds of tourist return home.
