As Halloween is fast approaching and all the shops are full of masks, witches and ghosts, we have decided to make a visit list of the strangest places on the planet. Most of them have been formed as a result of natural phenomena and today captivate the attention of tourists worldwide. This is a fascination for the unknown and for mystery that puts our imagination to the test.
We start with one of Romania’s places that each of us should visit. On the outskirts of Cluj city you will find:
- Hoia Baciu Forest. This forest is known as the “Bermuda Triangle” of Romania. Multiple people have gone missing in it, countless UFOs sightings have been reported, unexplained electrical phenomena are happening and much more. The locals are quite superstitious when it comes to this place, especially regarding the parts of the forest where all the trees grow crooked. We also visited the site a couple of times, and each time our photos came out blurry J !
- Thor’s Well, Oregon, Also known as Spouting Horn, this gaping sink hole of water is swallowing items only to shoot them back up with great force. If you are in the area just go and take Captain Cook Trail from the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area visitor center. For your own safety stay away from selfies, is not really the place to be at high tide or during winter storms.
- The Door to Hell, Turkmenistan. Once upon a time this was a gas field, but the Soviets set it on fire. Since then it has not stop burning, although 40 years have passed by. It seems this pit of fire will never stop burning much to the visitors delight.
- Kabayan Mummy Caves, Philippines. Well this is the moment when we turn on our cameras. The Kabayan Mummy Burial Caves are manmade caves full of mummies, situated in very isolated places. These mummies are some of the best preserved in the world so it’s worth the effort to reach them.
- TheCatacombs,Paris, France. Do you love Paris? Then come meet its dark side as we go deep into these Parisian creepy catacombs. This network of old quarry tunnels is the final resting place of around six million Parisians, most skulls and bones being taken from the city’s overcrowded graveyards during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The present display was set up when the authorities realized its potential as a tourist attraction. And what an attraction indeed! This of course, if you have the guts to go in and visit it!
- The Bermuda Triangle, North Atlantic Ocean. Without having to introduce it, the area has always been shrouded in mystery. Known as the Devil’s Triangle, the infamous 500,000 square miles between Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico has conspiracy fans all fired up. Although the USA will not admit the popular stories circulating the net, there are still happenings going on involving weird magnetic readings or ships, planes and people who have disappeared without a trace.
- Plain of Jars, Laos. Shrouded in myth, the megalithic stone jars are scattered across Xieng Khouang Province in groups from one to one hundred. They are supposed to have served in ancient funeral ceremonies, but we like the local legend more. It talks about though the jars being used to brew rice wine for giants. Cool, right J ?
For now we stop here with our list of the strangest places to visit. As for the giants we shall see them soon enough as the Halloween evening approaches. So do not forget to prepare yourself in advance for participating in the parties, wear crazy costumes, go decorating and carving pumpkins, visit haunted places and watch out for pranks…Boo!
