This week I am telling you about Greece, a country where people come from all over the world to see the ancient ruins. I urge you to know KEFI – the passion, joy & spirit in life.
And now let me tell you what actually happens on the road, in a coach trip to Greece …with Romanian tourists in love with this country.
19.00 – location: the parking lot next to the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. I’m boarding the passengers for the destination Zakynthos (Flower of the Orient – as it is called) and the land of Caretta Caretta turtles. At one time I board two nice, happy and very excited young people leaving in their honeymoon :). A gift from the parents that have offered them the holiday and suggested to bring into the luggage the suit and wedding dress for “unforgettable pictures” in the most beautiful locations on the island. My colleague Costel safely secured their precious cargo where the “props” for a successful photo collection was packed.
When the departure time arrived I had a “small” problem: 4 people (a family) were missing, two adults and 2 children. As often as this happens, I do not panic and call to see what happened. At the other end of the telephone a voice answers: “Yes, good evening, you must wait for us, we are coming from Moldova and the train was late. We are now in the taxi”. 10 minutes later two grandparents and two grandchildren, one 8 years old and another 10 years old are emerging from the yellow cab.
And now begins our “tale”. First of all Costel comes to me and says: ” Mate, have you noticed how many luggage they have?!” I look towards the pointed direction: 3 suitcases, two hand freezers and a hand bag that the grandmother insists to storage above the sits, because she says is ..a cooler place. So I do ask her as nice as possible: “What is it that you have here in the bag?” as I supposed there were sandwiches or fruit for the kids. Not receiving an answer I returned to my seat and saw the newlyweds – Florin and Georgiana – sharing their love and kissing every 5 minutes. Ah, love is in the air! And so we started our journey, reaching Greece by morning and heading to the island of Zakynthos.
But at one time Georgiana started screaming. Florin jumped from his seat in order to see what happened to his beloved wife. On the face and the white blouse of Georgiana bloodstains appeared, dropping through the ventilation holes (air conditioning). I turn to Costel and ask: ” Mate who have you got into the ventilation system? Blood is draining! Costel press the brakes and gives me the replica of a famous TV character: “Are you crazy my man?”
After the bus is pulled to the side of the road we calmly research the “case”. In a matter of minutes we found the “traces” of water& blood leading us to the granny’s cabin baggage, where she had packed a big frozen chicken from where the blood “escaped”. I look at her and ask: “Lady, why is it that you didn’t tell us that you are having a frozen chicken in the hand luggage?!” She looks at me embarrassed: ” Dear sir, I thought it is not going to melt until we arrive at our destination, where I want to prepare a chicken soup to my grandchildren with poultry from our backyard “.
Never mind the after jokes until we reached the island. As for the newlyweds, I wished them an enjoyable holiday and recommended them not to miss the two places where the sunset is amazing:
- Cape Keri and the Keri Lighthouse – not that known among tourist, where from 2004 you will find the largest flag of Greece
- Kampi village (west of the island) with stone houses and narrow streets that give the traditional image of Greek settlements. From here, you can watch the sunset, a décor suited for lovers.
And now I do not want to end this story without mentioning what happened with the “success” of the honeymooner’s photo-shoot session. Apparently seasickness and photo sessions do not go hand in hand. The visit scheduled for the 7 caves and the shipwrecks beach was on a day with agitated sea which led to a wedding dress disaster when the day menu ended up on the bride, quickly putting an end to any chance of amazing pictures for the Trash the dress party. Luckily they had the island surroundings to save the day! As for Georgiana, she calmly admitted that this trip is one to be remembered 🙂 .
