After a day in which I faced the bitter cold weather between two appointments, I slammed the door of the office feeling that I had enough of this winter. Do not get me wrong, I love snow & skiing but the cold and the gray city outside are far my dream winter. Isn’t it better to seek myself a warm sunny refuge elsewhere? After a bit of research two possibilities appeared: Hawaii and Portugal. Let’s see below why.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Surf’s up! For all those moments where I sighed watching TV and dreaming about floating on the waves. And if that will not do the trick I can always stay in a pub on the beach and enjoy the local cuisine in this tropical landscape. Farewell daily stress! Welcome days of snorkeling, scuba diving and trips to the volcanoes. But the biggest advantage of this destination: it is summer all year round (max 27 ° C in winter and 30 ° C in summer). Hawaii remains today a mix of three cultures – the Hawaiian (Polynesian roots), the US (after colonization) and Japanese (facilitated by the fact that the Japanese do not need visas to enter the US). So it is perfect to spend 7 days in this paradise. And I have another reason: Sea Life Park – this amusement water park located across from Makapu where I can swim with the dolphins!
My wonderful Portugal
This country has 600 kilometers of beach and 13 UNESCO World Heritage sites. There are already more than enough reasons to visit it. In addition, having been there a few times, I can tell you that it is a European destination easily accessible financially, with an average hotel rates of 80 € per night. And the weather is perfect for outdoor activities even in January / February with temperatures climbing to 19 ° C. I saw Portugal but not all of it and I can still visit the country every year without getting bored. First on the list: the cities of Lisbon and Porto Algarve. To Lisbon I have been so I am scheduling Algarve, called the Earth of the Eternal Spring. Perfect to banish winter from my mind! On the list of must see cities: Faro, Lagos, Olhao, Tavira, Albufera, Portimao and Silves. I also have the beach nearby: Praia da Marinha at Armação de Pêra. As tourist I’ll go visiting Faro Cathedral, the Church St. Francis, Infante Dom Henrique Museum or the churches Tavira and Santa Maria do Castelo & Nossa. Bonus – at the end of January and in February, I may still benefit from discounts on flights for these destinations offered by the airlines J.
With a little more time available (+ 7 days) and an increased budget (+ € 1,500) to the list of destinations where the sun isalways on the sky: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Cancun and Acapulco, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas or Negril, Jamaica
