About the Romanian tourism sector we could talk long and hard. What to do, how we can improve, what we lack to catch up with Europe’s major tourist destinations. For now though let’s go back and take a look to the new project involving the Tourism Legislation and Regulation, adopted by the Senate in September, which is currently with the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies. According to the representatives of ANAT the project is lacking in coherence and it contains numerous inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the text.

“Since it was opened for public debate there have been numerous meetings between the ANAT officials and the Senate committee. Following these meetings and to better regulate the business of travel agencies, ANAT has sent the Senate amendments that should have been introduced in the project, as we agreed in the bilateral talks. We see now that our proposals were ignored and that the Law for Tourism project was kept in its original form “declared Aurelian Marin, the president of ANAT (National Association for Travel Agencies) .

Among the desired changes suggested by ANAT and ignored in the new project are: the swap to a single category of travel agencies with the same license, defined as ‘tour operator travel agency’ – operator that organizes and sells travel services including packages for leisure services and / or facilitate to purchase travel services that are part of an assisted travel formula; protection for the agencies against the risk of insolvency and bankruptcy and rules to protect the tourist in case of agency “malicious intentions”.

For now, until the state institutions will agree on a coherent project, we have to make it on our own. Nothing new so far 🙁  .
