Sea, sand and swans

How many of you go to the sea side in winter? I guess not too many though, as proved, our beaches offer you sometimes …a big surprise. That is exactly what happened last week, on a heavy rain, when I went for a walk on the beach at the Black Sea resorts. So what it is February? I pretty much like the sea side in winter. Besides the fact that I have the entire beach for me, the cold, fresh air charged with aerosols instantly relaxes you. Then there is the advantage that, after the storm, you can look for all sorts of shells having as competitors only the sea gulls.

After I drove the car through all the possible puddles trying to access the roads leading to the beaches of different resorts, we decided to stop for a walk in Eforie Sud. It was still raining when I got off the car. Not to mention that the wind was blowing, making the umbrella useless. The atmosphere was just like the saying – sit in the house, count your money, keep your lover close. It just happened that I invited mine to a romantic walk on the waterfront. We were there already surrounded by the birds endemics for the Delta of the Danube. It seemed like they all arrived for an afternoon visit to the beach. So we had a blast watching them fishing.

The pleasant surprise: in the pier created by the golf, on the calm sea, more than 30 swans were playing through rocks or floating around in search of food.

lebedeOur arrival coincided also with the visit of other tourists who came armed with goodies for the unusual guests. We were amused to see how bold they began to approach the shore. In fact, they stopped at one meter away hoping for something to eat. Luckily the others shared their bread and crumbs with us so we could feed the swans for a while and enjoy their presence.

I forgot about the rain although our wet clothes made us aware of the fact that outside is a cold brutal winter. Never mind, we were still there, it was too good to leave. The sunset light at the end of the day combined with the moisture in the air created an unreal atmosphere, one in which we wanted to stop the time in place for a while.

At the end, taking advantage of the last ray of light the swans had their last photos taken. Unfortunately I had no photo camera, trying as possible to take pictures with my phone. Reason of fun for those who had with them the DSLR’s! The next day, in Mamaia, a flock of pelicans passed at low height near us. Probably going to meet our gracious companions from the previous day 🙂 . So, even if a winter stroll by the seaside is not in your agenda, this is a good way to explore nature close to the city. I recommend it, is therapeutic and you can be easily surprised. No matter the weather.
