The beginning of November brings us an invitation to … color and romance. From November 2, 2015 at Elite Art Gallery we will be able to see a new Corneliu Vasilescu exhibition, entitled “Romantic drama”. The opening will be marked by the performance of Aurelian Octav Popa, soloist of the “George Enescu” Philharmonic, which will lyrically accompany the artist’s works during a video projection. The recital will take place at 18:00 hours.
The exhibition will be open between 3 November until 23 November 2015, every day from Monday to Friday between the hours 11:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Academy Street, nr. 15, Sector 1, Bucharest.
Considered the father of the abstract painting in Romania, Corneliu Vasilescu is an outstanding representative of abstract expressionism. Born in Barlad, on October 23, 1934, he debuted in 1960 during the Artists from Romania Exhibition.
The name of his latest exhibition – the Romantic drama – places him within the boundaries of the famous spiritual artistic current, in the late eighteenth century. Presenting a special force, using as dominant colors the blue, the red and the ocher, his paintings are extremely powerful as they oppose the rigid rationalism and strict rules. The reality of Corneliu Vasilescu, just like in all the Romantics, is one of primary experience, free expression and artistic feelings, without being tainted by anguish and anxiety. His works are suggestive forcing the viewer out of the comfort zone.
