As we fly more often and for longer periods of time, the travel & leisure sector changed in recent years becoming one of the most dynamic at a global level. From developing the services offered to tourists to the development of the technologies used and diversifying the booking platforms, all signs seem to point to an increasing fast moving trend.

According to the study conducted by IATA (International Air Transport Association), in 2012 there were 2.98 billion passengers registered with the airlines, which lead to the estimate that in 2017 the number of passenger will be over 3.91 billion. And speaking of estimates, the contribution for the travel & leisure industry will reach over 7.680 billion until 2023 (estimate based on an average annual increase of 4.4%).

Robert Komartin, General Manager – Amadeus Romania has the same opinion:

“The Web 2.0 and mobile technologies have accelerated the changes occurring in the economy. New business models appear very quickly and can radically change how the businesses are being done. This has also occurred in the travel & leisure industry, where large part of the business has been transferred to the web. ”

The same point of view emerges from the study ‘Future Travel Tribes 2030: Understanding Tomorrow’s Traveller “.

In short: the technology will play a crucial role in how we develop the business models specific to the travel and tourism industry, where, according to the expected trends, in the coming years 80% of the world population will have smart phones and over 50% of the passengers will make their reservations ( documentation, booking and actual payment) using the Web.

Regarding Amadeus, the company now has a – one stop shop – application for everything related to bookings. In addition they launched the Content Rail solution (which allows bookings for railways) and, starting this month, a reservation system for transfer to the Henri Coanda airport is available.
