The heart of Queen Mary returns to Pelisor Castle

The silver box containing the heart of Queen Mary ( will soon be part of the public collection of the National Museum Peles) will be transferred on 3 November from the National Museum of Romanian History to Pelişor Castle.

Queen Mary’s heart will be placed in the Golden Room at Peleşor castle, which is, moreover, where the queen’s heart beat for the last time. The silver box containing the heart of Queen Mary will be escorted to the Royal Palace, in a formal procession and the cars will travel at reduced speed for the entire route so that the public can pay a final tribute.

To respect the testamentary wish of Queen Mary, the heart will be covered throughout the procession, as well as on the pedestal in the Golden Room, with the banner of Romania and the UK

The Royal Family will attend the event throughout the day. Reaching Pelisor Castle, at 15.00, a ceremony will be held, and in the name of King Michael, the Crown Princess Margaret will deposit Mary Queen heart in the Glden Room, its final resting place.

The heart will rest on a pedestal placed behind the couch where the queen passed away, on Monday, July 18, 1938, at 17.38“, according to the press release issued on Tuesday.

The event will be attended by Prince Radu, Princess Maria, Archduchess Maria Magdalena of Austria and her husband, Baron Hanns Ulrich von Holzhausen, representatives of central and local authorities, officials of the National History Museum and the National Museum Peles, clergy and the Royal House members.
